HOW DOES IT WORK?

 

This specific laser delivers light in an array of high precision microbeams.  These microbeams create narrow, deep columns of tissue coagulation that penetrate well below the epidermis and into the dermis, while sparking the tissue surrounding the columns from damage.  The coagulated tissue within the columns initiates a natural healing process that accelerates the formation of new, healthy tissue.  Coagulated cellular debris is expelled as the skin is resurfaced.  

 

By delivering light as individual pulses of microbeams, the Palomar StarLux 1540 protects the skin from the overheating that can result from many other resurfacing treatments.  In addition, the built-in cooling system of the StarLux 1540 results in only a minor discomfort during the procedure.  

 

WHAT IS EXPECTED AFTER A TREATMENT AND HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?

 

You may experience redness, warmth, swelling, or tightness in the treated area, which typically fades within a few hours of treatment.  The skin may have a pinkish tone for 5-7 days.  Generally, you can receive a treatment and go back to work or do other activities without any recovery time.

 

Because the light pulses are confined to narrow columns in the skin, much of the skin is left unaffected and there is a quick healing process.  Most patients notice positive changes in skin tone and texture within a few days.  A series of 3-5 treatments at 4-6 week intervals may be required to achieve desired results.
